Earl Cohen Productions is seeking cutting edge musicians to accompany their latest emerging artist, DENA, at her NYC launch party. Earl Cohen has assembled a dream team of writers and producers to develop and shape DENA into the world’s next big pop star. This team is the same Grammy-award winning group of writers and producers that were part of Lady Gaga’s multi-platinum selling album, “The Fame.”

DENA recently opened for Gavin DeGraw in upstate New York and released her first single, “Bad Boys” on iTunes in July 2012. ECP Productions is currently seeking young, contemporary and edgy artists, hungry for exposure and ready to work, for the following slots:

-Guitar Player

-Drummer

-Keys

-Dancers

Please send a headshot, resume, and recent YouTube clip of your work to management@earlcohenproductions.com. Do not send any mp3 or .mov files… only links to valid social media sites will be accepted for consideration.

Thank you and good luck!

Back in New York, the songwriter added a dozen more songs to three he already had lined up and summoned a grade A team consisting of producer Alex Wong and the likes of Chrissi Poland, Bess Rogers, Rob Schwimmer, Sierra Noble, Elliot Jacobson, Dave Eggar, and Chris Kuffner to bring it to sunlight.

The record opens up strong with “C’mon While We’re Young”, an invitation to live life at its fullest while we still have whatever drive inherent to youth. The track sets the tone for what’s about to come. Following act is the challenging “Drumset, Am Radio and Tears,” a western, stomp-ish, rockabilly-esque tune. “I’m undetectable, clandestine, completely out of sight” is shouted lungs-out at the end of the song, while all instruments rest silent. No way this goes without detection, being one of the highs of the album. On the other hand,” Your Heart Will Be Broken Again” plays opposite its predecessor and is the first touch of genius. Structured as a romantic doo-wop ballad, the lyrics are so straight forward they turn this beautiful song in the most ironic piece pop music has seen lately. Downright awesomeness.

Reliquary rests in still waters during “The Brooklyn Accent”, a homesick opening of heart subtly disguised as situations and moments set in his hometown; and “No One Knows”, a melodically happier tune that could have been written for an early 90′s Disney movie. Nevertheless, Rivas come riding to its rescue with “Meet Your Father”, by far the most interesting track on the album. A funny, intelligent, circus-like depiction of every man’s intentions and doubts when meeting his potential father-in-law. In “Life’s About To Imitate Art”, Martin brings a late 80′s feel resembling a softer version of good old neighbors Sonic Youth’s Diamond Sea. The closing, however, comes more discreet than expected yet still fitting, impressive and – why not ? – delicious. “Believe in Love” is, more than anything, a message left to everyone’s personal understanding and interpretation. It is so widely vague it becomes spot on.

Overall, Reliquary is a statement of passion for people, music and all the amazing things these two can represent. It shows what a great combination experience, interaction, talent and everlasting sensibility is. “When we’re gone, the memories that live on in those we leave behind serve as the perfect relics,” asserts Rivas. “I needed to celebrate how simultaneously temporary and permanent we are in sound in sentiment.” Mission accomplished.

~Nilo Ayer

Reliquary will be available on iTunes on July 10. For more information on where to purchase the album, visit www.martinrivas.net.

Introducing Jenny McGee, a mixed media painter and breast cancer survivor whose work voices her female pathway through trauma and healing.

Jenny McGee Art Press Release:

Exhibition to be held at the World Trade Art Gallery: 74 Trinity Place, New York, NY

Date: 5/12/2012

Time: 4:30-7pm

If there were an Olympic sport for creating artistic lemonade out of lifeʼs lemons, Columbia Missouri artist Jenny McGee would hold several gold medals. Three health-related ambulance rides to a hospital woke her up to the fragility of human life and the staying power of the art and design skills she was absorbing as an intern in the studio of New York illustrator/designer Mirko Ilic. A fall from a rock wall broke her leg in 20 places but introduced her to her future husband Dave who led them to a 7 and a half year stint as missionaries in El Salvador, where Jenny stepped into a broken, deforested landscape whose pain and fragility fostered new artistic directions. Seven years into her El Salvador experience, Jenny was diagnosed with breast cancer but again found a way to recycle trauma into art.

Jenny McGeeʼs work, beginning with those early lessons in the discipline of good design and including her most recent body of female figures and abstractions of water and light incarnate a single conviction: nothing is so wretched that it cannot be redeemed by art. From her studio in El Salvador Jenny reworked castaway fabrics into kaleidoscopes of social commentary. From her Columbia Missouri studio she rescued thrown away doors and windows and used them to frame paintings as simple as a line of four poppies and as complex as detailed mountain scapes. Turning that same studio into a personal wellness center she released her energy on her cancer and recovery and wrenched from their darkness her own works of soaring and triumphant womanhood. Her series of resin-coated water and light panels are her signature philosophy: trauma recycled, hope reclaimed.

Jenny McGee works out of her studio at Orr Street Studios. Please feel free to Twitter and Facebook Jenny. Sheʼll be busy in the studio, or at home with husband Dave and two children Jonny and Ema, but sheʼll take time to respond.

Jennyʼs paintings have been featured in many solo and group exhibits, including New York Cityʼs World Trade Art Gallery, French, Spanish and U.S. Embassies in Salvador. She holds a bachelor of fine arts in graphic design from Missouri State University and studied under designer Mirko Ilic in New York City. McGee has won several design awards and has had work published in Print magazine. She was a member of La Fabri-K, a Salvadoran artistsʼcollective that was awarded the Premio Ingenio, the nationʼs highest artistic award. She also collaborated with a Salvadoran group called Homies Unidos, where she forged relationships with former gang members through shared artistic experiences. Her artwork was selected for the 2011 Les Bourgeois Collectorʼs Series wine label, displayed at the 2011 True/False Film Festival, Roots and Blues Festival and Perlow Stevens Gallery. Most recently Jenny is preparing for a 2012 solo exhibit in NYC and YouTube features a presentation of her work at a recent Columbia Missouri event.
